Bessemer Council Debates Alley Land For M E Church
The June 21 1909 city council meeting presided by W F Truettner discussed granting feet of ground for an alley adjacent to the Methodist church in exchange for deeds to church land. A special committee reported the gas plant would not contaminate the water supply under current plans but future coal or water gas could require drainage to the Powder Mill creek. Action referred to sidewalk street and attorney. Mine street north to Lead street and cemetery steps were also on the agenda.
