Walker House Demolition in Ironwood Landmark Begins
Oke Johnson, buyer of the Walker House at Lowell and Ayer streets, has a wrecking crew at work. Ironwood Auto Service Co. owns the property, part of a purchase tied to the company’s organized era and the neighboring Ford garage. Built in the 1880s as a hotel serving miners and woodsmen, the structure stood as a historic roadside hub before vacancy led to its demolition. The building used white pine exclusively in its early construction, with sills and joists now being removed as the wrecking proceeds.
