Greatest Parade In City History In Upper Peninsula
A record parade in Bessemer as part of the American Legion convention draws up to 19,000 spectators on Friday. The morning procession, starting near the ball park at 9 am and underway by 10, features 11 bands and about 600 marchers, with floats from multiple towns and a photo at the end. Prizes reward commercial, industrial and patriotic displays, bands, and uniformed legionnaires, while traffic control is increased. Oglebay Norton plans a Palms Book shaft start around Aug 1, and the Lake Superior Mining Institute meets September 7 across Iron River Crystal Falls and Iron Mountain.
