Peter Gedda Post No 27 American Legion history
The Peter Gedda Post No 27 American Legion in Bessemer began July 21 1919 with 15 ex servicemen applying for a charter. It was known as Bessemer Post No 27, later renamed in honor of Peter Gedda. The post grew to about 100 members, attended state conventions, and built a strong civic and welfare program. It established quarters, moved to larger spaces, opened a hospital fund, and sponsored athletics while maintaining a 100 percent organization. The roster lists 88 post members in 1928 and notes officers through 1927 and present.
