The Supreme Commander of the Universe calls Lena Arkowitz from our midst. Bessemer Hive No 654 L O T M extends heartfelt sympathy to her husband and family. Hive charter to be draped in mourning for sixty days, copies sent to the bereaved, recorded, and published locally.
A city mass meeting in Bessemer has been called for Tuesday evening the 18th at the council rooms to plan a suitable observance of July 4. The announcement urges a large attendance to ensure a fitting celebration.

Mrs Simon Arkowitz died Tuesday evening after a long illness. Born in Kadon Russia aged 48 she came to America 22 years ago and to Bessemer 12 years ago. Survived by husband and seven children Nellie Michael Alex Rose Jennie Aaron. She was an honorary member of the Lady Maccabees. Remains taken to Hurley for burial.

A quiet wedding occurred at the Pascoe home at noon on Wednesday June 12 as Edward Pascoe and Miss Emma Louise Saxton joined in marriage. Pascoe, a longtime Bessemer resident and Tilden mine engineer, and Saxton, Oshkosh Normal School graduate and former teacher, will establish a permanent home in Bessemer. The couple left for St Paul and Sparta after the ceremony, and friends wish them happiness.
An eagle four feet from tip to tip swooped over Highland Lake near Winsted Conn and carried a lobster from a clam bake. The bird devoured the prey in a tree about a half mile away before a shot ended its life.
Rice Lake won the North Wisconsin Interscholastic field and track meet held Saturday afternoon at Ashland with seven schools and 51 contestants. Rice Lake scored 61, Ashland 41, Bessemer 15, Ironwood 3. Washburn and Bayfield earned no points. Harold Rasmussen led Rice Lake with the top score and received a gold medal while Abner Olson was awarded a silver. Bessemer entrants included Geo Rupp, Frank Byrne, Paul Massie, Frank Duda, and Peter Wrojewski, with Byrnes taking high jump and second in hop, skip and jump, Duda winning high hurdles, and Rupp third in the half mile.
