Connor Lumber gives up Wakefield ice rink lease
The Connor Lumber and Land Co will surrender its lease and vacate the enclosed Wakefield ice rink in July. Manager G. R. Connor cited intense West Coast plywood mill competition and rising costs as the reason for abandoning plans to market a siding or flooring board from sawmill cuttings. The rink will be returned to the Wakefield school district with equipment moved and the forced air heating kept for potential future use.
