Sgt. Baratone’s stark account of Buchenwald camp conditions
Local soldier Sgt. Joseph Baratone describes in vivid detail a visit to Buchenwald concentration camp. He outlines guard towers and electrified fencing, ritual beatings, hanging and cremation of prisoners, medical experiments, and the brutal daily routine, highlighting starvation, disease, forced labor, and mass murder. He notes German civilians and SS officers witnessing the carnage, and ties the atrocity to the fight for democracy and peace.
