Bessemer Council Approves Numerous City Bills and Appointments
The May 4 1962 Bessemer Common Council session led by Mayor Sandin approved numerous claims for the General Fund Water and Sewer Fund and other city utilities. Proceedings covered payrolls, supply purchases, vehicle parts, and service costs. The body also confirmed Fire and Police committee recommendations including equipment purchases and officer attire, appointed John P. Reas as Volunteer Fire Chief, and set the annual U P meeting notice on file. The clerk and deputy clerk appointments were finalized and a parkingmeter fund transfer approved to extend a sidewalk project. Everett O Lake served as City Clerk and Elmer V Sandin as Mayor.

Pellow Seeks Re Election for Gogebic Prosecutor
Gogebic County Prosecuting Attorney William P. Pellow announced his candidacy for re election. He stressed the office as a constitutional duty and its role as chief law enforcement in the county serving the Sheriff State Police and city police departments. He noted appearances in state courts and in the Supreme Court if needed.

Local Methodist To Merge With Wesley Church Of Ironwood
The Bessemer Methodist Church will unite with the Ironwood Wesley Church after unanimous votes at April 26 and May 14 conference meetings. A May 28 trustees meeting set up a special committee led by Ted Halstrom to study disposition of church and parsonage property, with ministers Rev. James Ritchie and Rev. Donald C. Portious.

St Sebastian Eighth Graders to Graduate
A class of 35 eighth graders will be graduated from St Sebastian School this evening at 7 p m in St Sebastian Catholic Church. The service opens with hymns and rites, the commencement address is by Rev Donald Schroda of Escanaba, diplomas are awarded by Rev Donald LaLonde and Rev William Russell, and honor students will be presented.

John Mussatti was elected commander of the Gedda Cychosz Post American Legion at a Wednesday meeting to succeed Ray Milewski. Walter Gray becomes vice commander, Ray Milewski second vice commander, and Martin Lamoreux reelected historian. A service officer will be appointed. Joe Martell currently holds that post. Matt Rooker chosen as Legion candidate for Wolverine Boys State at East Lansing, representing Post 27. Rudolph and Mrs. Kivisto of Bessemer are proud parents of a son born Sunday January 3 at Divine Infant Hospital Wakefield.
