Experts Visit 11 Gogebic Plants In Dairy Study
Forty one dairy manufacturing plants in the Upper Peninsula were surveyed by G Malcolm Trout of Michigan State College and Russell E Horwood of Marquette. Butter, ice cream, cheese, powdered milk and market milk were produced. raw and finished product quality deemed fair and varied by plant. Most firms pay premiums for sweet cream for ice cream though few do for butter. Many manufacturers support a UP creamerymen's organization and a quarterly dairy product judging contest rotating around the peninsula to boost quality. The public demands higher quality, urging improvements in methods across the industry.
