Log movement in full swing on Duluth South Shore line
Despite 200 new log cars and a 100 percent equipment rise, Duluth South Shore and Atlantic railways face heavy winter demand. Daily movements run high with 150 to 200 log cars, including Ford loads, plus 60 cars to L’Anse, 15 to 20 lumber cars to Tron Mountain, and shipments from Sault Ste Marie to Cadillac Lumber and to Cheboygan Pellston mills. Longer trains service Lake Gogebic to Marquette and Tula to Ashland to feed Schroeder mill. Officials expect activity to extend through mid April as shippers spread work.
