Walter Tarnaski Dies After Illness At 60 In Bessemer

Walter Gregory Tarnaski, 60, died Monday at his home on North Beecher Street after months of illness. Born October 29, 1887 in Poland, he came to the United States at 21 and worked in the Tilden and Anvil mines before illness kept him home. He married Mary Popko in 1907. survived by six sons and four daughters, with grandchildren and a sister in Poland. He attended Dorcas Chapter OES rites at the Masonic Temple, with local chapters in attendance and a social following services.

Seventeen year old Belgian Marchetti wins Michigan skating title

NORWAY Michigan seventeen year old Barbara Marchetti wins the intermediate girls title in the Michigan skating championship at Belle Isle. She dominates the half mile final and earlier events posting 23 seconds in the 220 45.8 in the 440 1 33.2 in the half mile and 3 44 in the mile for a total 120 points over two days. Last Rites for Mrs Glatczak Held at St Sebastian

Mrs Rose Glatczak aged 48 died of a heart attack at home last Tuesday evening. Requiem high mass was sung at St Sebastian church on Saturday at 9. Rev C J Swoboda officiated. Return Of Prosperity To U. P. Is Forseen

Edward Nelson, plant manager at Metal Products in Hastings Michigan, predicts a decade or more of prosperity for Michigan’s upper peninsula as iron mines resume full operation and new deposits are developed. Speaking to the Hastings Kiwanis, he described his Crystal Falls youth and U S Steel career and foresees steelmakers turning to the Menominee range and the upper peninsula for future iron ore.

Initiation Rites Held at Elks Meeting in Bessemer

Five candidates were admitted to membership in the Bessemer Elks lodge during initiation ceremonies at the Elks club rooms last weekend. New members are Major M. C. Grigg, Leonard Burns, Oswald Vispi, Joseph Duda and Pearce Graham Jr. Arnold Vispi and Walter Newman were named to represent the Elks on the general executive committee for the Light Massie Field project.

Koronski Elected County Director at Chicago Meeting

J. T. Callaway of Chicago was re elected president of the American Road Builders association at the Chicago gathering. Milwaukee’s W A Roberts and Milwaukee area figures joined as vice presidents and several directors from Wisconsin and Michigan were named to the contractors and county highway officials divisions.

VFW Post Sponsors Pre Lent Party

The County Seat post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will sponsor a pre lentens party on Saturday February 7 from 9 until 1 o clock in the post club rooms. Dancing and card playing will entertain and lunch will be served. Members of the VFW posts and auxiliaries and their guests are invited to attend. A popular orchestra has been engaged to provide music for dancing.

Ottawa Forest pays good dividends for counties

The Ottawa National Forest will return a record payment to county governments this year in lieu of taxes. Gogebic, Iron, Houghton, Ontonagon, and Baraga counties receive specified amounts, with total per-acre public expenditures around six cents.
