Mrs Jennie Berg 84 a city resident for 52 years died Monday at 4 pm at her home 1511 West County Road She was born in Oslo Norway December 12 1867 emigrated as a teen settling in Iron Belt Wisconsin later living in Bessemer Puritan and finally Sharon Lutheran Willing Workers charter member Survived by two daughters Nellie Berg Mrs Arvid Nelson two sons Henry Berg and Edward seven grandchildren 19 great grandchildren husband died 1917 and a daughter Doris died in infancy

Funeral Rites For Dennis Roberts To Be Held Friday
Dennis Roberts seventy eight, pioneer Bessemer resident, died at 10 30 Tuesday morning at his Black River road home after a 25 year illness. Born in Stony Point Canada on October 8 1873 he moved west at seventeen and settled in Bessemer in 1903. A carpenter by trade he farmed on Black River road later, served in the Bessemer volunteer fire department and was honored upon retirement. He married Olga Nelson in 1905 and is survived by wife, daughter Hoyt Ammons Knoxville Tenn granddaughter Christine Ammons and two brothers Emil Roberts Washburn Wis and John Roberts Fr William Canada

Rabbit hunting season ends Saturday
With the close of the upper peninsula snowshoe hare season March 1, the conservation department notes that only non-protected animals may be hunted legally across the state. Non-protected species may be hunted anywhere from sunrise to sunset with a small game license, unless hunting on lands where the hunter resides. Available species include owl, crow, hawk excluding eagle and osprey, starling, bronzed grackle, rusty blackbird, English sparrow, coyote, wolf, lynx, bobcat, fox, opossum, porcupine, weasel, and red and gray squirrels.

Honored on 82nd Birthday by Ferndale Elks Lodge 1588
Edwin R. Bayliss was celebrated at a surprise dinner for his 82nd birthday with about 200 Elk members and guests. The Ferndale Lodge honored him as secretary since 1935 and featured two speakers, including Grand Lodge official Irvine J. Unger and Judge Jay H. Payne. A guest read a letter from treasurer H. Lester VanOrder and a note from Frank Duda, former state president. Bayliss, who joined the Elks in 1918, moved to Ferndale in 1931 and lives with his daughter at 382 West Oakridge.

Funeral Rites Held Yesterday For Paul Massie
Paul N. Massie 63 a longtime Bessemer resident died Sunday at Grand View hospital from injuries in a stairway mishap at his Lead Street home. Born August 4 1888 he was among Bessemers first newborns and helped build local bridges and cement block homes. He married Jane Quirk in 1915 and was active in logging late in life. Survived by widow a daughter and two brothers three sisters and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral was held yesterday at 2 p.m. at J J Frick Funeral Home with Rev. R I Larson officiating. burial Hillcrest cemetery.
