Pioneer Ernest Felling Stricken Then Dies in Bessemer
Ernest William Felling a prominent Bessemer leather goods and harness dealer died Friday night at his Longyear Street home at 74 after a heart attack. Born in Wausau Wis he moved to Bessemer in 1887. He served as justice of the peace and alderman and held life memberships in Masonic and Eastern Star. Survived by Nellie Hope Kimball two sons Kimball and Garrett and a sister, with funeral set at Frick Funeral Home and Presbyterian Church. Burial Hillcrest.

A Bessemer township primary canvass found a five vote error in the Democratic clerk contest. Earl Johnson will appear on the ballot. Unofficial results show 138 for Tonyy Spagnoletti and 136 for Johnson. Write-in totals place John Johnson and Albert Tillner on the ballot as Peoples ticket candidates for justice of peace and board of review.

Not Guilty In Only Jury Case
The first and only jury trial in the February circuit term acquitted Joseph Spehar an Erwin township tavern operator charged with receiving and concealing stolen property. Cigarettes worth 1796 were found on his premises after an Ironwood warehouse theft. Four men charged with the theft received one year probation. Spehar testified he did not know stolen property was brought there. jury en deliberated under Judge Thomas J. Landers. Later court heard non jury matters including a tax delinquent property sale set for May 6 at the court house and a $2256.47 default judgment against the City of Bessemer by Lake Superior District Power Co for power usage Aug 1 1940 to Nov 6 1940.

Oscar Hieta Dies After Illness in City
Oscar Hieta aged 49 died at 2 30 Sunday morning after a four month illness with heart trouble at his home on Glynna street. A Finland native born July 10 1891 he lived here 26 years and worked as a miner until three years ago. He married Jennie Pihlaja in 1912 and is survived by a niece Irene Erickson and his widow. Services were held yesterday at the Moore funeral home and St Pauls Finnish Lutheran church with Rev Herman Matero of Ironwood officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest cemetery.

Reopen Mines At Warren Open Pit In Hibbing District
The M. A. Hanna Co. announced it will resume production next season at the Warren open pit iron mine in Stuntz township two miles west of Hibbing Minnesota. The mine has been idle for 16 years. This follows an earlier announcement that it will restart at the Wabigon iron mine in Buhl Minnesota idle for 10 years. Both mines are on the Mesabi range.
