The Washington P T O Revue drew a capacity crowd at the Washington gym as co chairs Bernard Wiercin ski and SFC Harry Mitchem were celebrated for directing the second annual show. Proceeds fund scholarships to be awarded in June, with a cast featuring local teachers, parents, and students across wards.

Carl J. Sell of Ironwood Dies at 72
Funeral services for Carl J. Sell age 72 of 914 E Pine St Ironwood were held Wednesday at Chappel Zielinski Funeral Home. Born April 26 1896 in Sunsvaald Sweden he moved to Ironwood in 1913 and worked 49 years in mining retiring in 1960. He served in World War I earning the Purple Heart. Survived by wife Laura Din ner two sons Leland and Earle and Ronald a daughter Mrs Michael Ercoli 11 grandchildren. Military rites by Lake Superior Barracks with pallbearers named. Burial Riverside Cemetery.

City shifts to July tax collection for Bessemer schools
The City of Bessemer will begin collecting taxes for the Bessemer School District in July instead of December after action by the Bessemer Common Council. The council authorized the school district to certify the levy to collect in July, aligning with the city's tax process.

A motion to add Bessemer School Superintendent Walter Newman as a party to a suit against the Bessemer School District over injuries from the 1967 Massie Field grandstand collapse is before Circuit Court Judge Donald L. Munro. The plaintiffs seek to avoid 60 day claim timing by naming Newman as defendant, arguing the district operated proprietarily for profit on the football program. Meanwhile a Bessemer Woman's Club program on March 4 will feature landscape architect James Somerville discussing city beautification and a tourist park initiative at the bluff.

He was married to Patricia Driscoll. survivors include his wife two daughters Marcy and Gina his mother Nellie Calabro and one more surviving relative.

Jim Partanen led the Bessemer Speed Boys to a 71 57 win over Hurley Midgets as they overcome a slow start. Partanen scored 34 points and Brian Ciesielczyk added 21, with Hurley’s Jim Bertagnoli leading all scorers with 25. Hurley finished regular season 7 11, while Bessemer improved to 9 8. The Speed Boys also split results with Trout Creek in a later mention, as they head to Ontonagon for a Class C District final.

Mrs. Carlo Varalli 83 of 210 W Galena St died Saturday morning at Gogebic Medical Center Wakefield She was born December 13 1880 in Sesto Calende Italy and married Carlo Varalli in 1900 They moved to the United States in 1914 to join her husband who died in 1956 Surviving are son Gino Varalli daughter Rena Scavarda two brothers five sisters Funeral services were held at St Sebastian Catholic Church with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery

NMU junior Roy Contratto awarded Cohodas scholarship
Roy Contratto, a Northern Michigan University junior, is one of two recipients of a $500 scholarship funded by Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cohodas of Ishpeming. A 1960 Bessemer High School graduate, Contratto studies business education and aims for a banking career. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Contratto, live in Bessemer. The scholarship, awarded annually, targets worthy Upper Peninsula students pursuing banking interests at Northern.
