In a local gym clash Tuesday night the Speed Boys of Bessemer beat Ashland 48 to 32 to finish strong in the league race. Captain Matt Rooker’s squad attacked early, with Lucas scoring 17 and Nylen and Pertile contributing solid totals. Ashland’s Tomlinson paced his team with 12 points, but the visitors could not overcome Bessemer’s balanced offense as the final horn sounded.

Birger Gustafson Joins U S Marines in WWII Draft
Birger Gustafson aged 43 and living at 116 Sellar Street enlisted last Saturday in Ironwood, joining the United States Marines as part of the war effort. His son serves as a sergeant in the Marines, while the elder Gustafson previously led a CCC camp at Camp Custer, Michigan. The recruit was processed by Sergeants James G. Bradley and Caesar J. Urbanski in the presence of Wakefield’s Urbanski.

Bessemer Township Board of Canvassers met at Ramsay Town Hall to review ballots improp erly initialed by the election inspector. Of 76 cited ballots, 27 favored Nesto Erickson, 33 John Chlebowski, 13 Emil Leonardelli, with 3 unvoted. Eleven ballots were set aside. final supervisor totals show Erickson 453, Chlebowski 430, Leonardelli 266, a 21 vote gap. The general election is set for April 6 with three candidates.
