Paul Chovan 50 of Anvil died Sunday night at St Marys hospital Rochester after major operation. Born June 3 1899 in Minerville Pa he came to Anvil area as a child and worked 30 years at Anvil Palms mine. Surviving mother six siblings. Funeral at Trinity Lutheran with Rev Wedel. burial Hillcrest Cemetery.

City Water Supply Improving in Bessemer
James Boggio, supt of the water department, reports marked improvement in Bessemer's water quality over the past 3.5 months. Records from Oct 29, 1948 to Feb 1949 show chloride levels and hardness steadily decreasing, with hardness dropping from 551 to 123 and further improvement expected toward 100.

Stonemarks Celebrate 25th Wedding Anniversary
Mr and Mrs August Stonemark of 206 Third Avenue were honored at a February 14 celebration at St Marks Lutheran church marking their 25th wedding anniversary. About 100 relatives and friends from Bessemer Ramsay Wakefield Ironwood Hurley and Montreal attended a program social hour and buffet with a decorated wedding cake. Hostesses included Mrs Robert Anderson Mrs Hiski Romo and others. The couple wed February 14 1924 at Zion Lutheran Ironwood with Rev Matt Wiskar. Mrs Stonemark was the former Miss Fanny Erickson. They have lived in Bessemer throughout their marriage and Mr Stonemark works at Royal Pastry in Ironwood.
