Speed Boys Triumph Over Stambaugh in 44-40 Win
The Bessemer Speed Boys beat the Stambaugh Hilltoppers 44-40 at Stambaugh last Friday led by Tom Manninen with 22 points. The victory improves Bessemer to 8 6 with Ironwood left on the schedule and they head to the Class C tourney in Ironwood in March. In other notes, entries for a March Talent Show sponsored by Marty’s Gilded Aires at Washington School gym were requested, with cash prizes for top places and reminders to enter promptly. The Bessemer Township Fund Drive Committee met at Ramsay School to close the 1962-63 drive. The goal was 1500 but only 641.40 was collected, below last year’s ~900. Ramsay residents gave 347 Hardig 156 Puritan 44 and Anvil 94 plus 27.36 leftover from last year for a total of 668.76 to distribute.

Mrs. James Pate, 47, a former Bessemer resident and 1932 graduate of A. D. Johnston High School, died Friday in Torrance California of a cerebral thrombosis. She is survived by her husband James V. Pate a son William and siblings in California and Lomita. Funeral services were held in Lomita California.
