Mayor Elmer V. Sandin led with 487 votes to secure renomination and face T. Oscar Maki who had 356 in the April election. Michael A. Gedda finished third with 307. In ward three J Irwin Neault Jr. led Raymond Nelson 284 to 93, setting up a April runoff. James Michelli placed third with 1 vote. Joe Stelmark previously held the office.

Mrs Costello Dies After Stroke in Bessemer
Longtime Bessemer resident Mrs Anna Costello formerly Anna Wyceht died last Thursday morning February 14 at her home 800 S Ming St after years of ill health including a December stroke. Born May 25 1830 in Austria she came to the U S at 16, lived in Brooklyn then moved to Bessemer to join her sister Mrs Mary Baksh. She was predeceased by her husband Edward and a son Joseph. Surviving are a daughter Mrs Ann Quance and Frank John Michael Anthony Costello all of Pontiac and a grandson Michael Quance. Funeral High Mass at St Sebastian Church with an honor guard from St Veronica's Court and Rosary Society. Interment Hillcrest.

The Conservation Commission approved projects to develop Porcupine Mountains Susie Park to begin this vacation season. Improvements include two old logging roads north from South Boundary Road to Little Carp River and near Summit Peak. Cooking School begins At Indianhead Hostel
A sixteenth week cooking and baking program at Indianhead Hostel opens for twenty five unemployed Gogebic County residents. Sponsored by the ARA retraining program and approved by the Department of Labor, the course operates five days a week. Funding totals include 18330 from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and 14300 for sustenance from the Department of Labor. Participants include 20 Gogebic County residents and five from nearby areas with many slated for resort work in northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan.

In Bessemer Township voters chose nominees for April 1 elections. Jurakovich won the Democratic supervisor nomination with 722 votes against Heikkinen 185, while Dianich ran unopposed on the Peoples Party ticket with eight votes. Ahnen led for clerk with 406 over Coleman 256 and Wie mers 238, facing Vilenica in April. Chaich won the treasurer nomination 331 to 276, Whitburn named trustee with 865 to 298 and 211 for Beissel. Ikola unopposed for two year Board of Review, and Koski for four year. Park commissioner Re unopposed with 595. constables Chlebowski 608, Peterson 687, Johnson 450.
