Bessemer defeated Wakefield 28 to 25 to take second place in the Michigan Wisconsin conference. Lucas led Bessemer with seven field goals, while Maki led Wakefield with five baskets. School Bus Garage Plan Considered by Local Board
The board weighs a WPA project or private contract to build a brick bus garage at the northwest corner of the high school gym on Iron street with an estimated cost of 3500 dollars. Hot lunches will be served at Washington and Barber schools under the WPA. A defense training project will be held at the Washington school shop. An electric scoreboard is to be bought for the high school gym before the district tournament in March.

Miner Peter Mautino Found Dead at Home Sunday
Peter Mautino a 60 year old miner of this city was found dead in his West Second avenue home Sunday evening at 5 30 by neighbor Louis Frello. He had been seen alive at 3 pm and was not known to be ill. Born in Italy on December 5 1880 he resided here since 1902 and worked at the Puritan mine until its recent closure. Survived by three daughters and one son, a brother in Bessemer, a sister in Chicago and two brothers in Italy. Funeral was held Wednesday at St Sebastian church with Rev Charles Herbst officiating. Pallbearers named.

Bob Ritchie Dies at 61 in Ashland Rustler Police Chief
Robert J. Ritchie former chief of the Oliver Iron Mining Company police force died last Thursday in Ashland after a long illness. He was 61. A Gogebic range wrestler in earlier years he later worked as a blacksmith and served as undersheriff of Ashland County in 1925-26. Survived by his widow two daughters and two sons. Funeral held Saturday in Ashland.

Mrs. John Crawford died in Mt. Pleasant Michigan at 68 from pneumonia. Her son E A Crawford is principal of Harding School in Bessemer township. Several Boy Scout troops have been organized in Bessemer township. The Ramsay troop has 20 members, Puritan 19 and Anvil 17. A troop will also be formed in the Harding district. C. E. Carlson and George Beissel direct the Ramsay troop, Peter Mikko, Vern Lillrose and Howard Brown have charge of the Puritan scouts, while H. O. The Washington school PTA carnival last week raised funds for the student dental project started last year. Co chairs Mrs Leonard Jezek and Mrs Charle Jezek led booths built by Fred Blair’s manual arts students. A deep cold wave with twelve below zero and eighteen below readings affected the area, though roads remained open.

Joseph Schwartz Dies After Snow Shoveling Incident
Joseph Schwartz aged 79 died Monday afternoon near his home at 310 North Sophie Street, likely from a heart attack while shoveling snow. A pumpman at the city water works, he was born in Germany in 1862 and came to the United States as a boy. He and his wife were early settlers in the mining region. she died about 19 years ago. He leaves seven daughters, two sons, and six grandchildren, with children named in the Chicago area and Bessemer.

A miscellaneous shower was held for Mrs Hugo Keenan at the American Legion building Wednesday night. Cards were played at seven tables with prizes to Mrs Joseph Jezek in contract bridge, Mrs Maurice Burt in auction bridge, Mrs Edward Erickson in 500 and Mrs Felix Supercynski in 500 rummy.
