Speed Boys Suffer 13th Straight Loss in Iron River
The Bessemer Speed Boys were defeated 70 53 by Iron River Tuesday night at A D Johnston gym marking their 13th defeat without a win this year. Iron River led early and extended the margin to 70 44 before reserves played last minutes. Bruce Richardson and Mark Martini led Bessemer with 12 points each while Iron River had balanced scoring from Dominici Rizzardi Wales and Demboski.

Bessemer Township taxpayers may pay their 1963 property taxes on Tuesdays and Friday, February 18, 21, 25 and 28 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the treasurer's office in Ramsay. Taxpayers are asked to bring their tax statements with them. On March 1 the tax roll book will be turned over to the county treasurer and those taxes unpaid at that date will be delinquent, and an additional penalty will be charged.

Mrs. Ray Welker 55 native of Bessemer died Sunday February 9 at her Woodbridge Connecticut home after a lengthy illness. Born Jean Erickson June 16 1908 she lived in Chicago and later married Ray Welker in 1931 settling in Woodbridge. Survived by husband two sisters and two brothers with funeral held February 11 at First Church of Christ Woodbridge. Interment in Plainfield Ohio with several relatives attending.

The St Sebastian Tadies Guild met in February with a panel moderated by Mrs Casper Drexler Wakefield Spiritual Development chair of the Ironwood Deanery division of the Marquette Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Rev C J Fran zeks spoke on Lent and urged observance for spiritual welfare. Miss Fiella Knoble ch resign ed as president elect. Mrs Lamort was elected acting president for two years. Treasurer Mrs Leonard Winkowski noted 1964 dues overdue. Dorothy Quiett was elected legate to attend the Citizen of the Year committee meeting. An exhibition by the Ironwood PTA Square Dance Club thrilled attendees as officers and nominees were announced. A scholarship fund stood at 86.60, and Brownie and Girl Scout enrollment reached 87 with 1964 cookie sales praised. He mined in the Penokee range until retirement, married Catherine Migaie in 1916, and his wife died in 1963. He leaves daughters Mrs Eugene Winkowski and Mrs Peter Wojeik. Funeral Friday at St Sebastian Church.
