Business Men and Shoppers 30 Day Trade Sale a Success
Bessemer's 30 day trade sale ended last Saturday with a crowded Johnson building and a grand gift presentation. Local merchants praised the turnout from both local and out of town shoppers and noted the event kept trade in town despite a slack season and bank closure. Seventy three Bessemer businessmen participated, offering bargains to draw shoppers and boost local commerce. A post sale dance at the Elks hall capped the event as merchants vow to expand the program to make Bessemer a regional trading center.

Gogebic farmers show strong interest in running hot and cold water systems at farm meetings held this week. About seventy attended the Harding school session in South Bessemer where A J Bell demonstrated installation steps for simple and power-assisted systems. Flint Mayor and 12 others indicted in liquor probe
A federal grand jury in Bay City indicted Flint Mayor William H. McKeighan, acting city manager Caesar J. Scavarda, and 11 others, including four in the Flint police department, on 22 counts each for conspiracy and taking protection money connected to operating liquor outlets. The indictments followed a five month probe into collusion with a liquor syndicate. McKeighan and Scavarda commented that the case should reveal facts and that law enforcement had done its duty.

Wessel Guilty Again in Homicide Trial Near Marenisco
A circuit court jury found Louis Wessel of Marenisco guilty of negligent homicide in the January 9 1931 death of Matt Pohjala after nearly 24 hours deliberation. This marked his second trial on the charge after a prior May term conviction was overturned on appeal.
