Bessemer varsity debate team won the C-D division at Northern Michigan University in Marquette on Feb 11 12 defeating Eden High School and Bishop Baraga. Team members Dorinda Lund James McCarthy Noel Massie Arthur Mattson Gloria Matonich alternates coached by Kenneth Ancheta. Massie named outstanding debater with a 21 point average and to compete for a Detroit Free Press Scholarship.

Widow of Frank Gheller Dies in Wakefield Hospital
Mrs. Frank Gheller of Pitch ton Road Bessemer Township died Friday night Feb 12 at Duine Infant Hospital Wakefield after a lengthy illness. Born Oct 14 1897 in Wysme Iowa she lived in Iowa Minnesota and Michigan. Surviving are her husband one daughter one sister and four grandchildren. Funeral at St Sebastien Catholic Church with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers named. Wright sentences man to prison in concurrent terms
In Geogia County Circuit Court Jaige Robert R. Wright sentenced Robert Rostollan, 25, formerly of Wakefield, to 18 months to five years for leaving the scene of a traffic accident and to 1 to 2 years for negligent homicide, to be served concurrently. The driver of the car in a July 4 crash near Bessemer was not named.
