Bessemer debaters win C D title at NMU in Marquette
Bessemer varsity debate team claimed top honors at Northern Michigan University in Marquette on Feb 11 12 defeating Eden High School in the final. Lund and McCarthy won both prelims against Bark River Felch and final against Eben. Massie tied for outstanding debater with a 21 average and will seek a Detroit Free Press Scholarship.

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Gheller held
Mrs. Frank Gheller of 6& Pol len Road Bessemer Township died Friday night February 11 at Divine Infant Hospital Wakefield after a long illness. Born October 14 1897 in Wyeste Iowa she lived in Iowa Minnesota before moving here with her parents. She married Frank Gheller on August 5 1916. Surviving are her husband one daughter Mrs. Adeimme Cvengros of Bessemer one sister Mrs. Arthur Mairet of Devesport Iowa and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St Sebastien Catholic Church. Pallbearers listed. Relatives and friends attended from the range community.

Wright sentences Rostollan to prison in fatal crash case
Go geboe County Circuit Court jailed Robert Rostollan, 25, for 18 months to five years on leaving the scene of a traffic crash and one to two years on negligent homicide, to be served concurrently. Rostollan was accused of striking and killing Carl Wieckman as he crossed Highway 62 at the Clayberg Street intersection in Bessemer last July 4.

Speed Boys Push Ironwood But Fall 61 51
The Bessemer Speed Boys shaved down a league leading Ironwood Red Devils before losing 61 51 at A D Johnston gym. Ironwood trailed 16 14 after one quarter but surged in the third to pull away 46 36. Rick Syrjala and Jim Milakovich each had 15 for Ironwood while Kangas Pertile and Carli added 13 12 and 12. Bessemer rallied late but could not overtake the Red Devils.
