Bessember Matron Frances Supercynski Dies at 81
Frances Supercynski 81 longtime Bessemer resident died Friday at 7 30 am after a two week illness born Frances Urbanski in Melzyn Poland March 9 1867 she came to Bessemer May 1 1892 with her husband Valentine surviving five sons and three daughters and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren funeral Monday at St Sebastian church burial in Hillcrest cemetery pallbearers include six grandsons and two other relatives. The County Seat Post notes a Golden Anniversary VFW award for post renewal efforts and Eagles sponsor a penny carnival February 24 at Ramsay town hall.

Mrs. Anna Beckman 65 of South Puritan died suddenly at her home on Wednesday from a stroke while performing household tasks. A Finland native born Sept 17 1883 she came to Bessemer at 16 and lived here 50 years. Surviving: five sons five daughters 15 grandchildren and three sisters.

Salvation Army Drive Collects $292.25 in Bessemer Area
Mrs. Frank Hoffner reports the Salvation Army drive raised 292.25 with 14 organizations contributing 61 dollars. Court house personnel gave 11.50, post office staff 6.50, individuals 5.60, 79 business and industrial establishments 190.25, and Bessemer Township schools 26. Anvil teachers and janitors donated 4, Harding 3.10, Ramsay 9, and Puritan 10.

Wakefield Chamber Promotes City Hospital Expansion
The Wakefield Chamber of Commerce leads a campaign to expand the local hospital run by the Sisters of St. Joseph. Paul Filter Receives Arts Degree From Michigan
Paul L. Filter, son of Mrs. Cath erine Filter, earned a Master of Arts in journalism at the University of Michigan. He will join Dow Chemical in Midland after moving from Ann Arbor with his wife Dulcie Jane Van Ostrand. Filter also earned a Bachelor of Arts last January and served four years in the infantry in the Pacific, leaving as a captain after discharge. He is a Bessemer native and A. D. Johnston high school alumnus.

Memorial Lane of Trees Planned by Bessemer Club
In spring 1946 the Bessemer Woman's club decided to honor local service members with a mile long lane of elm trees along relocated U.S. Highway 2 east of Bessemer. The plan calls for trees at 60 foot intervals with evergreens as a background, plaques at both ends, and a Memorial Day dedication. Community donations are sought to fund the project.
