Community Youth Center Fund Drives For Bessemer
Last week and this week the Bessemer Youth Center, Inc. collected 554 dollars as many firms remain to be contacted. The center opened on Wednesday with Phil DeLormeau leading roller skating, drawing large enthusiastic attendance. Open house for adults will follow Sunday afternoon, and the Board of Directors will meet Monday at 7 in the Veterans Memorial building.

Bob Serbin and Dil Worth of Moorhead State Teachers College were named co-captains of the 1350 football squad at a faculty alumni banquet attended by 70 lettermen. Serbin, an end, has two prior letters with the Dragons and played through an old collarbone injury.

Prosecuting Attorney Theodore Albert released minutes from December and January showing hospital staff actions. The January 19 1950 and January 23 1950 minutes reveal staff appointments and reappointments, including regular and courtesy members, and letters sent regarding appointments and non appointments for 1950. Gust Carlson Dies After Heart Illness at 76
Gust Carlson, 76, died Monday at Grand View hospital after being admitted Saturday for a heart condition. A longtime Bessemer resident since 1900, born in Rennes Jacobstad Finland on June 6 1873, he worked at Diamond Match Ontonagon then McKinney Steel Mines later as a surface carpenter. Surviving are three daughters, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a sister in Finland. Funeral set for Friday afternoon. Also, Holy Name Society officers at Christ the King church were elected Whitney Johnson president Frank Rizzio vice president Joe Chapuzio secretary Maurice DeMarchi treasurer, with meetings the second Wednesday each month. Holy Communion will be given at the 8 o’clock mass this Sunday for the Holy Name society members and men of the church.

Hurley Midgets, led by Patritto, defeated the Bessemer Speed Boys 45 to 32 at A D Johnston gym. Patritto scored 13 points, including a center court shot late in the third quarter. Hurley dominated with tight defense and fast ball handling, securing third place in the M-W standings while Bessemer’s seven-game conference skid continued.
