One of the season’s biggest social events, the Washington Birthday Ball, will be held next Friday February 22 under Peter Gedda Post No 27 American Legion. The high school gymnasium has been booked for a large crowd with special decorations. Benny Graham’s orchestra from Stevens Point will provide music. Township Concert Series By Bessemer Township Schools

25 Men Work At U. P. Gold Mine Ropes shaft under water
The Calumet and Hecla Copper Company placed 25 men at work at the Ropes gold mine five miles north of Ishpeming in Marquette County. Unwatering the nearly 1000 foot shaft is underway using electric pumps. Follow up underground exploration will start after repairs.

Martin Pastori Dies of Injury in Michigan Foundry
News arrives of the death of former Bessemer resident Martin Pastori in Muskegon after a foundry accident where a 24 inch wheel broke, fracturing his leg. Pastori, 35, married to Freda Biasi, moved from Bessemer to Muskegon in 1928 with a large family including Harold Denham, Caroline, John, Frank, Charles, Peter, Henry, Fred, William, and two Martins in Detroit.

Hannah Geral Best, born January 17 1862 in New York, widow of Mr Best, died recently. She married in Ishpeming on April 2, 1885, then moved to Bessemer and Ironwood. Survived by husband five children two brothers and five sisters including W. W. Gray and Mrs M. E. Penglase. Funeral Monday conducted by Rev C E Huffer of Ironwood Presbyterian Church.
