Charles Bernald 81, pioneer resident of Bessemer, died Friday at the family home after a yearlong illness caused by a heart attack. Born in Germany January 2, 1861, she came to the United States in 1884 and to Bessemer in 1887. Survived by husband, two sons Percy and William, and daughter Mrs. Ed Sandercock. Pallbearers named Adolph Skwor Henry Hoffman Arvid Thors John Newman Clarence Otto Torri Jacobson.

Sheriff Pursues Car Thieves In High Speed Chase
Sheriff Arthur Pertile chased a stolen 1988 Ford coupe through Ironwood and Ramsay at speeds up to 90 mph after a carload of Indians fled without paying for gas and oil. He fired twice, halting the vehicle and returning the occupants to the county jail. The trio, John Le Mieux 16, Jane Le Mieux 17, and Eunice Gordon 18, were headed to Baraga to visit relatives. Minnesota authorities were to take custody.

The Washington school P T A sponsored an old time dance on Wednesday night with about 400 attendees. A relaxed program followed an informal meeting featuring color movies Trees and Homes, Rosetta singing three numbers with piano by Mrs L E B Church, and Tony Wysoski performing two soft shoe routines. Valenti's Venitians provided music from 9 to 12, the venue decorated in a Valentine theme, and the Junior High student council sold refreshments including coffee and doughnuts.

Mrs W Uren 67 Ramsay Dies After Lingering Illness
Mrs William Uren longtime Gogebic County resident died Sunday at her Ramsay home after a lingering illness. Born in England November 20, 1875 she came to Wakefield in 1886 then lived in Anvil and Ramsay. Survived by husband two sons John and Louis three daughters Mary Walczak John Collins and Bernard Pospeck 29 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services were held at the family home with Rev Paul Jarvis of the local Methodist Church officiating and burial in Hillcrest cemetery.
