The program for the Legion meet is announced for Saturday and Sunday January 21 and 22 at Rameau. Fritz Freder iion Post Neo will host with the Ausiliary and the county council acting as hosts to department officials. Legionnaires of Ontornscon and Gogebte Counties and auxiliary members will attend.
Emil Leonard entertained the Anvil circle of St Sebastian's church in Bessemer at her home Monday afternoon. Anvil school records the highest attendance for the month with township schools Ramsay Harding Puritan noted with figures. Grade attendance reports for Anvil include Readingarta First Grade Land Grade and Third Grade with various percentages.
A Ramsay and Upper Peninsula agriculture gathered program highlighted by speakers State Commander John W. Gilmore and U P Adjutant Robert J. Byers. The open meeting at Ramsay School on Saturday includes a banquet and dance with tickets nine cents, planning for next year’s U P American Legion Convention in Bessemer. Local leaders Bessemer speakers and entertainment will be featured as delegates register on Sunday morning.
Automobile license plates for 1955 in Bessemer will be sold at the office of Frank J. Duda who was appointed this week. Previously plates were sold at the county clerk’s office.
The notice directs reservations through county adjutants who will inform the hangquet committee at Ramsay. Others may contact Arvo F. Wakevainen at the Ft. Bessemer exchange. Reservations must be made by Thursday evening January 19.

Funeral services for Ernest Boline 2% held Monday afternoon from his home and Sharon Lutheran church with Rev. F E W Kastaman officiating. Interment in Hillrest cemetery. Pallbearers included George Mazanec, Leo Massie, Peter Cena, John Brusso, Elmer Englund and Kenneth Sandin.
Local officials announce Mrs. Corrigan of Cleveland donated 34 000 to the relief fund for the company's workers and families. The company previously gave turkeys at Christmas to each employee. Plans include a public card party Thursday with nine games and banco plus prizes, and a charity ball at Ramsay Town Hall with date to be announced.
Julius Bretall a former resident died Jan 4 in Bovey Minnesota where he had lived 16 years He was buried last Friday at Coleraine Minnesota where he belonged to the American Legion Born December 14 1891 in Bessemer He leaves his widow his mother Mrs Mary Bretall of this city a sister Mrs John Strand Ironwood and five brothers August Gust George John and William all of this city
At the Ramsay Parent Teachers Association meeting in the school gymnasium last evening Supt 1H Dulebohn spoke on Three Theories of Education. The program included a vocal number In The Garden Of My Heart by Marcella Rutiman and a piano piece Rustle of Spring by Betty Bates. a brief business session preceded the program.
Mrs Victor Poss hosted a Thursday afternoon party for Mrs Arthur Brederickson celebrating her birthday. Cards were played at two tables and luncheon served at four with eight covers. Mrs Brederickson received a gift in remembrance of the occasion.
Ramsay Junior High meets Ironwood JH in the third game of their schedule on the local floor Friday evening with an 8 o'clock main event and 7:15 start for the eighth and ninth grade boys. Student Council has arranged a ticket plan allowing students to obtain admission by selling one adult ticket.
At Grand View Hospital the medical and surgical staffs elected officers for 1933. W Elwood Tew M D was named Chief of Staff with W L Maccani as Associate Chief of Staff and Joseph A Blaha as Secretary. Executive committees and key doctors were listed. The main paper by T R Rees discussed medical costs. Unusual cases and X Ray studies were showcased by multiple doctors.
Mrs. Anna Mattson, widow, 63, longtime Anvil resident, died Monday at 11 45 am after yearlong illness. Born in Finland, she leaves seven daughters including Mrs Annette Hurst in New York City and Mrs W J Enlund in Milwaukee, three sons Mathew Wakefield Arthur Hurley and George Anvil, 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild, and a brother Sam Kokko of Highbridge Wisconsin.
Officials from UP counties call for a meeting in Marquette on Friday January 20 to discuss immediate relief, road and community projects, and the possible approval of a Rev. construction Finance corporation loan. The gathering aims to outline budgets and confirm funds for highway work and employment in the UP.
A total of 204 929 51 dollars was collected in taxes in Bessemer on Tuesday as the four percent collection fee took effect. Mining firms remitting were Corrigan McKinney Steel Co with 104 424 16 dollars Youngstown Co 82 644 912 and Jones and Laughlin 22 968 42. Remaining to be collected totaled 73 408 28 as this year’s taxes reached 278 337 79.
Rev. and Mrs. Theo. F. A. Nickel learned of the death of Rev. Nickel's mother Mrs. Martin Nickel in Lyons Illinois on Monday after a heart attack.
Officers and directors of the Bessemer National Bank were reelected at the annual meeting on Tuesday. John J. Frick remains president with Dr. R. J. Mullen as vice president. W. C. Drevdahl is cashier, and Leonard Rualasavics along with W. R. Olson serve as assistant cashiers. Directors include Frick Mullen Barnich Hansen and Rualasavics.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from St Sebastian Catholic Church for Louis Spagoletti OS with Rev C J Swoboda officiating. Burial took place at Hillcrest Cemetery. He is survived by his widow, five daughters and five sons.
Bes temer High School basketball team dropped two games last week. Bergland beat Bessemer 24 to 13 here Friday, and Hurley won in overtime on Saturday. The locals host Iron River on Saturday.
