School Buses Sticker Exempt From Federal Use Tax
Two types of school buses are exempt from purchasing federal use tax stickers. If the bus is owned and operated by the school district or rented under a written lease for the school year and operated by the district, no sticker is needed. First Highway Death Sunday Afternoon in 1942 Event Near Bessemer
The first highway fatality of 1942 occurred Sunday about 4 45 pm on U S 2 two miles west of Bessemer near Olds tavern. Christian Anton Johnson a lumber camp cook for Elmer Rees was the victim. Joseph McDaniels Hurley tavern operator was driving the car with Johnson when it collided with a car driven by Herman Larson of Ironwood. Larson suffered a fractured skull a fractured jaw and a severed tongue. McDaniels had a fractured ankle and several broken ribs. The injured were taken to Grand View hospital.

Joseph Chesare 56, a longtime farm hand for Fred Bertorello west of the city, died Sunday afternoon at the county infirmary. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Christ the King Church by Rev. Fr. James McCarthy with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Basene. Chesare, born in Italy, is survived by a brother Peter of Negaunee and another brother and sister.
