The Bessemer Speed Boys ended a three game skid by defeating Iron River 58 to 45 at the new Armory in Iron River. Bessemer built a 10-6 lead after one, led 25-16 at halftime, and pulled away behind Nemacheck 19, Hau tala 18, and Rouker 18. Iron River was led by Wagberg with 13.

School Proposal Approved By Voters In Bessemer
Voters in the City of Bessemer approved the School District proposal to end the 15 Mill Tax Limitation Law by 333 to 80 in a special district election. Turnout was light with 413 ballots cast, about 20 percent of eligible voters. Precinct results show Yes leads in all three precincts: Precinct One 169 Yes 35 No, Precinct Two 78 Yes 27 No, Precinct Three 86 Yes 18 No.

Mrs Frank Perlich Sr Dies Tuesday at 69
Mrs Frank Perlich Sr age 69 of 507 Bundy Sr died Tuesday at Grand View hospital after a year of poor health and a week in hospital. Born June 13 1889 in Yelvica Yugoslavia she came to the U S in 1909 married Frank Perlich in 1910 lived in Ironwood. Surviving husband Frank Jr four daughters two Milwaukee residents Ironwood residents a sister in Yugoslavia and 11 grandchildren. A son Peter was killed in World War II. Funeral Friday at Holy Trinity Church with Rev Ambrose Matejik.

Mrs Joseph Blaha Sr Dies at Wakefield Hospital
Mrs Joseph Blaha Sr a pioneer resident of Bessemer died at Divine Infant Hospital Saturday January 31 after a heart attack. Born Josephine Bourish in Clarks Mills Wisconsin September 14 1871 she moved to Bessemer early with relatives. She married Joseph Blaha in 1889 at St Sebastian Church and was active in the Ladies Guild and several veterans and fraternal organizations. Surviving are daughter Mrs Gordon Luxmore of Bessemer two sons Joseph Blaha of Lockport NY and Frank Blaha of Bessemer nine grandchildren two great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Her husband died in October 1939.
