State Highway Dept Approves Street Program Bes semer project okayed
The State Highway Department approved Bes semer citys street improvement plan with a $142 428.46 cost. Major streets receive 59 percent and local 41 percent. Bond issuance of $100 000 is sought pledging 40 percent of gas and weight tax revenue for 15 years. Local funds must cover the gap to meet 66.6 33.4 percent allocation and compliance with act 51 P A 1951. County Seat Post VFW donated 100 to Divine Infant of Prague fund drive and outlined new committees for building grounds, house, sick relief. Work on meeting hall refinish begins Saturday with Valentine party plans and officer elections in March.

Mrs John Luxmore age 80 died at her son William Luxmores Detroit home last Sunday at 1 15 a m after five years of declining health She lived in Bessemer over 50 years before moving four years ago to Detroit She was active in Dorcas Chapter of Eastern Star and local civic affairs She married John Luxmore former Gogebic county clerk about 50 years ago He died in 1941 She is survived by her son William Detroit a foster son Gordon Bessemer two foster daughters Mrs Carl Lentz Nashville Wis and Miss Laura Luxmore Ironwood nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren Funeral services were held at Glenn Funeral Home Livingston Wis with burial at Livingston Cemetery She was formerly Phoebe Andrews of Livingston before marriage to Mr Luxmore

Dr. R. J. Mullen of Bessemer receives a six year appointment to the Michigan State Board of Dental Examiners by Governor G. Mennen Williams. A UMich Dental College graduate, Mullen has practiced in Bessemer since 1916 and served in WWI with the U S Army Dental Corps. He led Bessemer civil defense in WWII and is active in American Legion, VFW, 40 & 8, Elks, and local dental associations.

Adolph Guyer Dies at Appleton Wisconsin
Adolph R. Gayer, 72, of Appleton Wisconsin, died Sunday February 1 after a two month illness. Born March 24 1868 in Ontonazo, he lived in Appleton 30 years and was a Carpenter and vocal school board member in the 1890s. He belonged to St Mary’s Catholic Church and several fraternal groups. Funeral was at St Mary’s with burial in the parish cemetery. Surviving relatives include nephew Wil Biece and sisters-in-law Mrs. Mary Gayer of Kenosha and Mrs. Emma Gayer of Ironwood, with other relatives in Florida and prior ties to St. Allen Assembly and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

James Conterio Dies Former Township Supervisor
James Conterio Sr. 68 former Bessemer Township supervisor died at 3 a m today at Divine Infant of Prague hospital Wakefield after double pneumonia. A Marenisco resident he was active in politics as supervisor 1918 to 1920 highway commissioner and served as Marenisco education board president for over 10 years and as United Italian Society president for 18 years. Born July 1 1884 in Locana Italy he worked in coal mines before moving to Bessemer and later Dunham and Ramsay. He leaves three sons a daughter eight grandchildren two sisters and a brother. Funeral at St Catherine Church Marenisco. Burial Hillcrest Cemetery Bessemer.
