In a Tuesday special election Bessemer voters approved ending the 15 mill tax and backed Light Massie Field with 283 to 135 votes. Only 425 ballots were cast as many voters failed to re register and could not vote.</S>

Flight crews suffer crash while moving ptarmigan to upper peninsula
A plane crash in northern Saskatchewan involved biologist G A Ammann and a Canadian bush pilot during live trapping of ptarmigan for release in the upper peninsula. Eight birds are due to arrive at Sault Ste. Marie after a 20 hour flight and will be released north of Iron River. An earlier rail shipment failed. only one bird survived. The effort aims to establish ptarmigan as a new UP game bird.

Mike Engleson Dies After Lingering Illness
Mike Engleson 82 a pioneer Bessemer resident died Saturday at Infirmary hospital after a long rheumatism battle. Born September 21 1866 in Norway he arrived in 1895 and lived in Duluth a year before settling in Bessemer. He worked 36 years in farming and lumbering for Adolph Johnson. Survived by a brother Stephen in British Columbia.
