Lions Fete Wives At Annual Christmas Party
Lions Club members honored their wives at the annual Christmas party held Tuesday December 16 at the Elks Clubrooms with about 50 in attendance. A banquet featured tables with lighted silver trees and candlelight while Oscar Hansen gave the blessing. A Christmas music program followed with Nancy Novas cone and Marilyn Whitburn singing O Holy Night and He. Mr. Oas led singing with Mrs Willow Tallio assisting. Mrs Hjalmer Jarvi Dies At 59 After Surgery
Mrs Hjalmer Jarvi, 59, died Friday night at her home 204 N Beecher St after a ten day hospital stay for surgery. Born April 17, 1898 in Bessemer, she lived there most of her life. Survived by husband Hjalmer, two daughters Mrs Julius Rigotti Jr of Anvil and Mrs Gene Homschek of Hanford, two sons Eugene and Kenneth of Waukegan, five grandchildren, mother Mrs Charles Lepisto Sr of North Bessemer, a sister Urho Rooni and brothers Charles Lepisto Alfred Lepisto. Funeral Monday at 1:30 p.m. at J J Frick Funeral Home with Rev Mark Wickstrom. burial Hillcrest cemetery. Pallbearers were Joseph Velalainen John Haavisto Ted Eliason Emil Vesa. Erick Lindstrom Burial Held Saturday
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. for the late Eric Lindstrom 62 of Loudon Minnesota a former Bessemer resident who died last Tuesday of a heart attack at work. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery at Sharon Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Wickstrom officiating. pallbearers were Ronald and Carl Pikka Wakefield David and Ralph Eplett Ironwood and Baner and Clarence Johnson Bessemer. Out of town attendees included family members from Loudon Wakefield White Bear Silver Bay Ironwood Ontonagon Sault Ste. Marie Appleton and other Michigan and Wisconsin communities.
