The Gogebic range mines of Oliver Iron Mining Co reduced to six and five day schedules at Anvil Palms and Newport, affecting about 700 miners. Oliver shipped 1,425,411 gross tons this season from Gogebic and 25,294 tons from various ranges in the Superior region, down from 1,071,225 in 1926. The Tilden mine at Bessemer helped offset losses, while total 1927 Oliver output rose to 21,968 tons. the accompanying table lists 1927 and prior year figures for Aurora, Move, and other mines. The M A Hanne Co plans winter stripping at Wabigon, Susque lamnma, Mesabi, Missabe Chief, LaRue, and Wakefield, with eight underground operations continuing as weather allows.

The first four rooms will provide office space, the second floor storage and display areas, with a rough stone exterior and a log cabin effect. Postmistress Jennie McMinn urges use of tuberculosis Christmas seals and warns patrons to place stickers on the backs of letters to avoid delaying the mails. Michigan Tuberculosis Association began last week, with many letters at the Bessemer post office already bearing the stamps. The 1928 seals feature blue green and red colors, the Ship of Health and the double red cross.
The passing of 4 Uh Jasberg at Hancock December 2 marks the end of one of the most useful careers in the upper peninsula. He served as a colonization agent of the South Shore and Mineral Range railways and led Upper Peninsula Finns, guiding the development bureau as ex vice president and director. He undertook missions for the American and Finnish governments with satisfactory results. His exemplary character and wide attainments left a void in Michigan.

Ewen, having played several games since mid November, has defeated Amasa twice and Bergland while losing to Ontonagon.
After a five hour deliberation a jury found Tens Dellies of Watersmeet guilty of manslaughter for killing his first cousin Jerry Dellies in Watersmeet on October 1 during a quarrel. The case opened the criminal docket and Judge G O Driscoll presided. Prosecution was led by TAS Sanders. defense by BE W Massie. Dellies awaits sentencing. The panel included William Rice and 11 others. The court then moved to the negligent homicide case of Richard Hendrickson of Ramsay over a fatal auto strike near the Ramsay spur, with testimony continuing.
State candidate Holland argues eight hour work days as practical in Michigan. He endorses a Normal School for Gogebic County and notes Michigan’s strong tax base and mining safety progress. He supports mine safety legislation, deer season closures, Mackinac Bridge study with possible state aid, gasoline tax funding for roads, and an old age pension plan. He warns against broadening primary law while calling for preservation of suffrage rights and reform options. He opposes capital punishment revival.
County delegates met in the Office of the Upper Peninsula Development bureau on December 4 in Marquette. The peninsula-wide temporary group organized at Menominee October 13 became permanent as the Upper Peninsula Airways Commission. Betts of Menominee was elected president Wilder McRieh of Ironwood vice president and Harold Lindsay Eseca Nuba secretary treasurer. Twenty five delegates attended with reports showing progress and interest across the peninsula. The gathering followed by an appropriation ceremony at the Hotel Marquette.
The city bowling team edged Montreal by three pins in Montreal last night with a final score of 2617 to 2614. Local bowlers included Me Girl oo Aishecan Like Ud 6% S. Viazunko 2.2.2.2 and Stormy at 122202.1N2 lbh 169 hd, Vitieh 202.2 155 22h 16 Max Stormy v Jol 202a. The total was 2617.
