U P State Fair Ends Upbeat After Six Busy Days
The Upper Peninsula State Fair in Escanaba concluded after six days of good weather and large attendance. Tourists from across the Midwest and as far as California joined locals for an unusually high level of exhibits and entertainment including Gervone’s band and the Show of a Century. The fair featured CCC exhibits, Michigan Tech displays, 4 H clubs, and a second butter scoring contest. Helen Strong set a track record in the 2:18 pace, and a memorial tablet for Joseph E. Gordon Whitburn, 33, former Gogebic County resident, died in Detroit from pneumonia.
