Total annual receipts 311.69 total expenditures 392.85 with 393.60 paid to Fey Publishing for the annuals.

Two Bessemer boys, Ramsay and Anvil youths join nine county men in military service. David Ram panelli and William Brach of this city, Matthew Jurakovich of Anvil, and William Newman of Ramsay travel with the group. The Bessemer Volunteer Fire Department track team won two firsts and a third prize at Houghton during the annual firemen's tournament held last week. They took first in the station race and in the Interchange race, and placed third in Race No 1. The team included coach Art Olson and members Gordon Erickson Leno Barbacovi Bruno Ballone and Joe Re.

Three New Teachers Hired Here In Bessemer
Regular session last week saw the Bessemer school board hire Leon Hanke of Eagle River to teach Science and coach at Washington Junior High, John J. Wagner of Jefferson Wis to teach English and coach drama and debate at the high school, and Esther Sandquist to fill the Washington school vacancy after Mary Guyer’s retirement. Miss Elaine J Pertile daughter of Victor Pertile 1702 Barber Street and John Borich son of Mrs Frances Borich of Anvil married at St Sebastian Church in a high Mass on Saturday August 7 Rev C J Swoboda officiated. Bride wore ivory slipper satin with lace yoke rhinestone crown veil and cascade lilies. Groom wore formal attire. attendants wore taffeta gowns and crownless nets. Reception and wedding breakfast hosted for about 200 guests at VFW clubrooms with out of town relatives attending. The couple will reside at Anvil where the groom works in the grading department of the Anvil mine.

Major Grigg's Successor Here In Bessemer
Major James Richardson and Mrs Richardson have arrived to take over as ROTC instructor in Bessemer succeeding Major Martin C Grigg. Richardson, a West Point Graduate, served in the European theatre and commanded at the rank of Major in the 9th Infantry Division. He is the son of Colonel Ford Richards who retired in 1941 and has long Army ties.

About 150 guests attended the post nuptial shower for Dolores Rodd now Mrs John Lewandowski. Prizes went to several guests and hostesses included Mrs Emil Marander and Mrs Carlton Lindberg. The couple will move to Dollar Bay as Mr Lewandowski resumes chemical engineering studies at Michigan College of Mining and Technology.
