The conservation department and hunters gain from a new badge system to be inaugurated this year. Badges are 1 3/4 inches, highly visible, and colored to distinguish license types. Officers can identify law abiding hunters at a glance without asking to see licenses. Colors: orange on white for nonresident deer, grey on white for resident deer, green on white for nonresident small game, red on white for resident small game. County officials will receive badges so stocks are ready before open seasons.

New Geneva Shaft To Hoist This Fall
The Geneva mine, new Oliver Iron Mining Co. property east of Ironwood Michigan on the Gogebic range, will begin hoisting iron ore this fall. It will reach 4000 ft depth, connect with the Davis mine at 3400+ ft via a crosscut, and feature a large Allis Chalmers hoist. The American Bridge Co. builds a surface stockpile trestle and pocket, with grading underway.

Soo Line Employee Dies On Tuesday
Carl Edwin Swanson, a 30 year old laborer for the Soo Line, died at 4 20 Tuesday afternoon from acute alcoholism. He was born June 30 1898, married, and leaves his parents. Funeral services will be held in Ironwood today.

Water Carnival Planned at Lake Gogebie for Next August
Lake Gogebie will host a large water carnival next August to celebrate the opening of U.S. 82. The Gogebic County Advancement Association set the plan at a meeting last Friday at the White House on Lake Gogebie. Committees will be appointed to organize the carnival and the association will sponsor Gogebie county’s portion of the Discovery Tour, welcoming editors from native newspapers visiting the Upper Peninsula, starting October 13 from Memphis.

United States Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg of Grand Rapids and Charles W. Richardson of Marquette, visiting Gogebic this week, drew about 20 friends at Dewey's dinner and met Gogebic residents at the Curry hotel in Ironwood. Vandenberg promised annual visits to the Upper Peninsula, traveling from the Marquette range to Iron River and Menominee after the Gogebic stop.
