Schools churches and mines paused with moments of silence and ROTC programs led tributes. Sgt Anton Bogdan Wins Two Battle Stars in Europe
Sergeant Anton Bogdan of the 27th Air Transport Group in France earned two battle stars for campaigns in Northern France and Germany. An aerial engineer and ground crew helper, he checked engines, tracked instruments, and aided cargo missions and evacuations, after enlisting in July 1940 and serving overseas nearly two years.

War Casualties and Missing in Action from Ironwood Area
Local families report multiple service members missing or killed in action in Europe and the Philippines during World War II. Pvt John Raykovich of Ironwood is missing in Germany since March 13 after a December furlough. Pvt Francis Jacquart, also of Ironwood, was killed in action in Germany on March 24. Flight Officer Emil Sabol and Pfc Kenneth Brown are listed as missing or killed in actions in Germany and Italy, with families noted. Sgt John Rupnick, previously reported missing, was killed in Italy on February 23. Pfc Reino Harju, previously reported missing, was killed in France October 14, 1944. An April 21 beaver hide sealing event is announced for Wakefield with conservation officers present.

Conservation Club in Busy Session in Bessemer
The Bessemer Conservation Club was formally organized with about 50 attendees. Officers were elected: Frank Drazkowski Sr President, Roy Johnson Vice President, Ray Barbacovi Secretary, Michael A Gedda Financial Secretary, John Bonovetz Treasurer.
