Ore Shipping Underway At Ironton Mine
Loading of ore into cars from the shaft began this week at the Ironton mine in Bessemer. Other range mines have started loading for shipment to the Ashland docks. First ore boats expected to reach Ashland by April 17. Total tonnage for the year not yet known.

Kate Holland Dies in Flint
Word has been received of the death of former Bes semer resident Kate Holland who lived with her brothers Jerry and William Holland in Flint. The body is expected Saturday morning and funeral services will be at 10 o clock from St Sebastian Catholic church with Rev C J Swoboda officiating. Interment will be in Hillrest cemetery. Survivors are the two brothers. another brother John Holland long time Gogebic county state representative died a few years ago.

Four Year Steel Industry Deficit Reported

Two Bessemer Pioneers Die Within a Week
Two longtime Bessemer residents on Iron Street died within seven days. William Apitz, age 65, died Monday from multiple sclerosis after three years of illness. Charles Hendries died yesterday afternoon. Apitz, born in Neenah Wisconsin, lived in Gogebic County 43 years and left a widow, two daughters and two sons. Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM from the family home with interment in Hillrest cemetery. pallbearers named. Relatives from out of town attended.

Charles Hendries believed to have died of a heart attack while operating a steam shovel at the Tilden stockpile yesterday at 2 40 PM. Born in Two Rivers Wisconsin on August 7 1864 he came to Bessemer in 1887 and lived there 48 years. He was a charter member and officer of local German Lutheran churches leaving a widow two sons Albert and Erwin, three grandchildren and two brothers. Funeral set for Sunday at Fricks with Rev Theo Nickel presiding.

Belmont Waples, a Gogebic county pioneer and longtime attorney, died at Grand View hospital from pneumonia after a brief illness. He was 69, born in New Orleans, educated at the University of Michigan, and practiced in Ironwood with clients including railroad interests. Survived by his widow and son Harold, a Michigan Public Utilities Commissioner. Funeral held in Ironwood with Rev Malcolm Langler presiding and Masonic rites.

The Lake Superior ore transport pool expands with rail lines pooling traffic from the Gogebic range in Wisconsin and Michigan.
