A. Michael Brown of Columbus joined General Electric Co in the chemical materials department as an advertising and sales promotion specialist. William E Harris, advertising and sales promotion manager, announced the move. Brown joined GE in 1959 after graduating from Ohio State University and completed the advertising and public relations training program before being assigned to the distribution transformer department.

District Court sets Oct date after Sunday accident
Michael Barile 41 of 100 Linden St was not in court as charges of drunkenness driving under the influence and operating to endanger were continued until Oct 6. Barile said he was at home with internal injuries from a West Street crash about 12:35 a.m. involving Howard Copeland and Ivins Washington who were slightly hurt. Copeland is 45 from East Nassau N Y and Washington is 50 from Lanesboro. Barile’s attorney Ally Thomas Wojtkowski requested the continuance.

Visual Therapy Schedule for Palsy Victims
A visual therapy gym program for children with cerebral palsy begins Friday at 6 pm in Pittsfield High School gym. About 11 children are enrolled. more can join via James Fenn, school psychologist and executive director of Berkshire County United Cerebral Palsy. The program, in its third year, is directed this year by William Mannum, with funding from the United Cerebral Palsy Association and planning help from the Cerebral Palsy Parents Association. It uses trampoline, tumbling mat, walking rail, balancing board, and blackboard to teach seeing to muscular awareness. Classes run Fridays during the school year from 6 to 7:30 pm.

Idle claims in Berkshire drop 47 in a week
Unemployment claims from Central and Southern Berkshire County residents decreased by 47 last week with 718 claims filed down from 765 two weeks earlier. Edward J. Barry, manager of the Pittsfield Division of Employment Security, cited 18 job openings filled that week and noted a year ago there were 841 claims.
