Interlaken Hall survey eyed by Stockbridge board

The Stockbridge selectmen will ask architect Roy Hare to estimate the cost of a professional survey of Interlaken's Citizens Hall. After a meeting with Arthur W. Maskell Jr. and Interlaken representatives, the board seeks funds via a warrant article for a special town meeting. Residents urge timely work before February's annual meeting.

Paving of Roads Is Postponed

STOCKBRIDGE Selectmen told Seymon Barash for the Mahkeenae Heights Association that Taghconic View and Mahkeenae Heights roads will be paved but not next year. The roads, accepted in 1951 with winter closure terms, were petitioned due to traffic and wear. Next spring gravel will be laid to settle before paving.

Walker Returns to UConn for Sophomore Year

John Walker began his sophomore year at the University of Connecticut after previously returning home on Sunday. Mrs Elsie Goodwin also returned to Somerville Connecticut following a short visit with Mr and Mrs Frederick Shaw.

Decision on Fate Of Railroad Station Is Due Soon

STOCKBRIDGE The New York New Haven Hartford Railroad will decide soon whether to rebuild or raze the station. The site housed the Chemin de Far discotheque last summer and until a July fire was an eyesore in a strategic location, per planning board concerns. E Peck, district real estate agent in New Haven for the railroad, sent the reply to Selectmen.

McGrath Joins FFA Parade at Eastern States Exposition

Edward McGrath Jr a Williams High School junior and Stockbridge FFA sentinel took part in the North Atlantic Regional Program at the Eastern States Exposition marching with over 200 FFA members before six New England governors in the Coliseum. He is the son of Mr and Mrs McGrath of West Stockbridge.

Monterey Dance Event Teases Youth Interest Test

Monterey Recreation Group sponsors a free dance at the Grange Hall with live music by the Marksmen of Pittsfield this Saturday from 7 to 12. Admission is free for local youths and their guests. outsiders must be invited by a Monterey resident. The event aims to gauge youth interest for future dances.

September Middlefield Meeting Bets Funds for Library Ad

The September Middlefield Men's Club met after a baked ham dinner served by Mrs Peter Tefts. They voted to donate 15 dollars for an ad in the talent show program to support entertainment sponsored by General Knox VFW post of Russell on October 23 to raise funds for Gateway Regional Junior-Senior High School library books. Auditions for talent across the valley are planned. Also announced is the Annual 4-H achievement program Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the school with awards and a candlelight service, and Bob Haralin's Orchestra will provide music for dancing from 8 to 12 at the school.

Twenty Mt Greylock Regional High School graduates will pursue higher education. Eleven enter four year colleges this month including Northeastern Boston University of Massachusetts and New York University. Others attend UMass Worcester Amherst College and Bridgewater State among numerous institutions.

West Stockbridge announces tuberculosis X-ray clinic schedule

West Stockbridge and Richmond Health Association sponsor a tuberculosis X-ray clinic Tuesday from 3 30 to 6 30 p m at the Village School. If unable to attend, residents may visit Richmond town rooms from 7 to 9 p m. Abatement and exemption deadlines for real estate tax are October 1 per the West Stockbridge Assessors. Weekend guests included Laughran Vaber and guests from New York City Dr Richard Ziter of Westport Conn and Wayne DuBois of UMass visiting Lucius DuBois at Pittsfield General Hospital.
