Attitude Toward Quints Varies Throughout World
Global views on multiple births differ greatly. The Fischer quints in Aberdeen are hailed as a national pride by President Kennedy, while the Igorot of Northern Luzon restrict the sole surviving child among multiples. Some New Guinea communities view quints as a good omen with special care, and in the U.S. families receive broad support including waivers on delivery costs and potential tax exemptions if McGovern’s legislation passes.
