The Berkshire County extension bulletin urges fall planting of tulips daffodils hyacinths and other bulbs. It notes stored food inside bulbs and predicts bright color next spring with little care, plus advice on varieties care and planning for future blooms.
The Royal Dutch Air Force began using a new method to keep Leeuwarden Airbase runways clear of seagulls. An extended tape recording mixed distress cries from four gull types and played as birds landed. A spokesman cautioned that seagulls are a hardy breed.
Mrs Dorothy Diamond reestablishes the information and referral service first set up in 1960 under the state health department. Funded by the state, the service guides clients to medical facilities and also helps with housing, employment, and other problems needing professional aid. It aims to prevent clients from wandering among agencies and coordinates with hospitals, physicians, and nursing homes. The senior citizens focused service will be available to anyone in need, with contact through the Senior Citizens’ Center or the Welfare Department.
Richard G. Carter director of the Museum of Art Rhode Island School of Design will judge paintings for the Berkshire Art Association 12th annual fall exhibition. Submissions accepted at the Berkshire Museum Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 2 to 5 pm. Registrations chair Mrs Charles N Brubacker assisted by Mrs Paul A Luzon Norman Dellert Mrs William A Carrollen Mrs Jack Powell Mrs Luther Fitch and Mrs Waller Quick. Exhibition opens in October and closes October 29.
