Joint Study Groups Proposal Rejected by School Board

The School Committee voted against establishing joint study groups with the Pittsfield Teachers Association. Association President Edwin R. Grady sent the request to examine curriculum and school problems. Superintendent James P. Reynolds suggested it stemmed from competition with the Pittsfield Federation of Teachers and their practice of going to the School Committee directly. The committee favored current administration led processes for recommending changes and noted no need for the board to oversee such matters. Grady said the association hoped for teachers to have a voice in planning, but he arrived after the discussion.
