Gibson Play Is Soviet Hit Despite Bias of Officials

The play Two for the Seesaw by William Gibson, once deemed ideologically unacceptable after its Moscow premiere, is now a box‑office hit says The New York Times via Pravda Ukrainy. Pravda Ukrainy assailed Kiev touring troupes for presenting the bourgeois romance without prior notice, alleging box‑office motives over ideological conscience. The Ukrainian critique mirrors a wider concern in Soviet theaters over ensuring plays align with official views and avoid foreign content that emphasizes Western social ills.
