Broad Base Said Required For Citizens Housing Unit
Michael F Leen deputy director of the federal Workable Program informs the Pittsfield Urban Coalition that the Citizens Housing Advisory Committee must be broadly based. The makeup became an issue after a two week sit in at City Hall. Seven groups in the demonstration would select members but a contingency would let protesters approve outsiders if needed. Leen must approve the membership. Bogdan suggests residents within the urban renewal site form a nucleus of the project area committee. Federal funds cover staff and project costs.

Berkshire Officials Split on Matteson Report Plan
Two of three Berkshire County Commissioners disclaimed full endorsement of the Matteson report proposing a single county developmental agency through merging the Berkshire County Industrial Development Commission and the Berkshire Hills Conference. Bowes and Collins backed only the principle of one agency, not the specific merger or financing details. Shea offered no comment. It may require legislative action to create a countywide development entity.
