Interest High In New Tax Bill

The Senate Finance Committee prepares for hearings on the House tax reform bill. It has received thousands of letters protesting capital gains and charity deduction provisions, driven by universities, mutual funds, and stock brokers. Hijackings Include Tel Aviv Flight and Cuba Flight

Two separate hijackings reported. A TWA Boeing 707 from Rome to Tel Aviv was seized near Athens and diverted to Damascus where a cockpit bomb exploded after landing. 116 aboard evacuated with no serious injuries. A National Airlines flight with 48 passengers, diverted to Cuba, landed in Havana. hijacker, wife, and three children aboard, no injuries reported.

Bernadette To Speak On Boston Common

Bernadette Devlin will address an Irish rights rally on Boston Common at noon on September 4 and speak at War Memorial Auditorium that evening as part of a US fundraising tour for the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association. Minisub Alvin Headed Home From Deep Sea Salvage

The 23 foot Alvin minisub, raised from 5000 feet near Cape Cod, was towed landward on Friday by Navy and civilian divers. It neared the surface at 350 feet depth and is to be towed to Martha's Vineyard for possible hoisting aboard a salvage ship and drydock repairs.

Five Soldiers Refuse to Obey Order in Vietnam Battle
