Auto Club Membership Increases in Berkshire County
J Howard Fryer was reelected president of the Automobile Club of Berkshire County for a three year term at the 45th annual meeting held on Bank Row. Herbert Mausert and Eugene F. Donnelly were retained as vice president and executive secretary treasurer. The club reported 178 new members to total 10,961, about 20.9 percent of Berkshire car owners, the highest ratio among 12 New England AAA clubs. AAA calls rose 40 to 16,569 costing 40,993.06, with 12,151.87 paid by Lumbermen’s Mutual for auto policies. three fatal accident claims totaled 10,250. There were 1,811 routing requests locally, plus many abroad, including 199 international driving permits. Five new directors were elected: Drennan, Gerst, Hurley, Newton, Sweeney, with many directors reelected. Retallick remained board chairman and committees elected include executive, finance, auditing, nominating, traffic, junior safety.

San Diego Janitorial Owner Arrested Over 200 Window Breaks
Bernard G. Pollard 34 owner of Dependable Maintenance and Janitorial Service was arrested in San Diego on suspicion of breaking more than 200 dirty windows he was hired to clean. A private investigator provided film evidence and police said he hoped the customer would blame juveniles.
