County Seeks Gate Cost Estimates for Onola Lake Dam
Berkshire County officials reviewed a Rodney Hunt Co. quote of 2,000 for a new timber gate and an overall range of 10,000 to 15,000 for installing it on the main dam at Onola Lake. County Engineer William A. Heaphy cited repair costs for comparison and noted the gate plan aims to control flow at the single gate rather than fix the canal wall, which cables to Pittsfield’s water rights dispute. The Penetr y n System estimate listed 22,000 for dam and canal wall repairs, with 12,000 for canal work and 10,000 for the dam, while vandals once destroyed the original gate.
