Navy to hand over 80 river patrol boats to Vietnam
In Saigon the U S Navy will transfer 80 river patrol boats to the Vietnamese Navy this Friday, marking the war’s largest single turnover of naval materiel. The boats will be split among four river patrol groups forming a new task force to be commissioned at ceremonies. The transfer brings total U S craft to 228 since June 1988, about 40 percent of the 550 patrol boats in South Vietnam. The rest will be handed over over the next nine months as 33,800 U S sailors remain in Vietnam and Nixon orders further Navy cuts. Premier Khiem predicts no breakthrough until a new North Vietnamese leader emerges, with observers expecting a leadership contest between Le Duan and Truong Chinh after Ho Chi Minh’s death.

Friend Says Rohan Lived In Misery
In Jerusalem a court heard testimony about Michael Denis Rohan, the Australian arson suspect at Al Aksa Mosque. Arthur Jones, 25, of Burbank, described Rohan as a former mental patient who lived in misery and torment, noting he spent time in a mental hospital and appeared very unhappy. Jones, a prosecution witness, said Rohan could not relate in Hebrew during kibbutz classes, froze when asked questions, and spoke of lifelong rejection and a sad childhood. The defense admitted Rohan started the fire but argued he was mentally ill and not responsible. Rohan sat in a bulletproof cage as the testimony proceeded.

Haynsworth conflict dispute over Grace stock disclosure
Bayh renewed charges of a conflict of interest involving Chief Judge Harolds Haynsworth and his Grace Line stake. The case arose from a Grace Line seaman's $30,000 claim that yielded $50 after Haynsworth’s court upheld a district verdict.
